How to take screenshot in a computer using shortcut keys

Windows has many built-in features for taking and saving screenshots, and they’re only a couple of keyboard clicks away. It's easy to take a screenshot on your Windows computer. You can take a screenshot of your whole display or you can take a screenshot of just one window. When you take screenshot using shortcut keys, you will not get any confirmation about it, you have just go to Paint or Word and click paste.

Screenshot using Shortcut Keys

Follow the below steps to take a screenshot...

1. Full Screen Screenshot

➤ To take screenshot of the full screen use the shortcut keys given below:

"PrtScn" ( or it will be labeled as "Prt sc" / "PrtScr /  Print Scr" )
"Ctrl + PrtScn"
"Windows key + PrtScn"
"Fn + PrtScn"

➤ Use one of the shortcut keys which works for you from above given keys. On laptop keyboards, Fn + PrtScn works more (Fn is Function Key). Press and hold Fn then press PrtScn to take a screenshot.

➤ You will not get any confirmation that the screenshot has been taken.

After taking the screenshot, you will need to paste it to a program in order to see it. Programs like Paint, MS Word etc. can be used to paste the screenshot. You can also paste the screenshot into body of an Email. After pasting the image you can save it as an image file in your computer, that can be transferred to others. We will use Paint for pasting the screenshot.

⧫ Open Paint (Click on 'Start' then search for 'paint' and open it.)
⧫ Click on 'Paste' or use 'Ctrl + V' , to paste the image.

⧫ To save the image, click on then Save to set the name and file type of the image ( file type like JPG, PNG, GIF etc.). Best format for screenshots is PNG, due to the high quality and small file size.

2. Screenshot of One Window

If you want to capture only a window then use this method. One Window screenshot function will take a picture of the "active" Window, means the window which is in front of all your other Windows.

Click the Window that you want to capture.

➤ Now to take screenshot of a Window, press "Alt" Key with the Keys that worked for you in the above method, like if "Fn + PrtScn" works for your keyboard to take full screen capture, then to capture a Window, the keys you have to press are "Alt + Fn + PrtScn" (press and hold Alt+Fn then press PrtScn or press all keys together to capture a Window).

The shortcut keys for screenshot of one Window are as follows:

"Alt + PrtScn" ( or it will be labeled as "Prt sc" / "PrtScr / Print Scr" )
"Alt + Ctrl + PrtScn"
"Alt + Windows key + PrtScn"
"Alt + Fn + PrtScn"

Once you’ve made the screenshot, paste it into a program like Paint, MS Word etc. Then click on 'Save' to save it as an image file.
