How to create a Fake Windows Error message using Notepad | Notepad Tricks

This is a Notepad trick by which you can create Fake Error messages in Windows. You don't need any softwares to do this, we will use Microsoft Windows's text editor tool "Notepad" to create this fake Windows error. You can give whatever message you want in the Fake error message.

Create Fake Windows Error Message

Follow the below to make a fake windows error -

 1. Open Notepad   (Click on 'Start' then search for 'Notepad' and open it)

 2. After opening notepad, Copy and Paste the below code in it :

X=msgbox("System error message",16+0,"error title")

➥ Replace the texts denoted in red in the above code with the text you want to display.

System error message - 'Message you want to display'
error title - 'Title for the error'

 3. Now save the file with .vbs extension, e.g. Error.vbs

 4. Now, when you open the file that you have created, you will get your Fake Windows Error message.

Changing the Error Type

You can modify the type of Error message by changing the numbers in the code, like in the above code it is 16+0. By changing these numbers in the code, you change the type of Windows error.

There are two numbers in the above code '16' and '0'.

The first number '16' is for Error type like critical, warning, info message etc.

And the second number '0' is for the options in the error message like'Yes' and 'No' , only 'OK' buttons etc.

The other numbers and there features are given below, use them in combination to get the Error type and the options you want.

16 - critical error message
32 - question error message
48 - warning or danger error message
64 - info error message

1 - for 'OK' and 'Cancel' button
2 - for 'Abort' , 'Retry' and 'Ignore' button
3 - for 'Yes' , 'No' and 'Cancel'
4 - for 'Yes' and 'No'

Use the numbers in combinations, like, we are using 48+3 and the code will be :-

(Replace the texts denoted in red in the above code with the text you want)

You will get a Warning Error message with Yes, No and Cancel options by using the above code.

➜ To display the Error message couple of times, then paste the code, number of times you want, i.e. if you want 3 times the error message to display after opening it, then paste the code 3 times in multiple lines, into the Notepad.Below code is example for 3 times displaying the error message -

➥ If you use the above code then the Error message cannot be stopped by normally closing it, it will be continuously displaying. But you can stop it with Task Manager.

Open Task Manager in your computer (you can use shortcut Keys "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" to open Windows Task Manager). Now locate "wscript.exe" and select it, and click on "End Process".
